Monitoring of natural energy sources is continually under scrutiny by the forces that would drive the economies of our world. Governments of our age rise and fall with the stances adopted on ‘clean’ energy. It would appear that the movement to clean energy is gathering momentum. And fossil fuels are increasingly being left in the ground!
Clean energy doesn’t have to be restricted to discussion around the fuels that keep us moving. It can be personalised when you experience and realise that you have had a development in the levels of physical energy you can muster. My own experience of a surge in clean energy was such a breakthrough. It came as I emerged from an enforced and lengthy period of restricted movement. For a keen walker to have that ankle injury eventually mend was heaven, and recovery brought with it a welcome flow of physical energy.
Is this not also a gift of spiritual energy as well? What a change of mindset and outlook it turned out to be. When Paul in Galatians 5 exhorts us to embrace the fruits of the Spirit, it is akin to that great breakthrough from lethargy, apathy, tepidity, being closed in on oneself that does test our energy levels. Surely it is clean energy that Paul speaks of as the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. And truly this is the energetic work of the Holy Spirit, foreshadowed by GM Hopkins ‘…the Holy Ghost over the bent world broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings.’
