Welcome to JISA

Welcome to JISA

We welcome you to Jesuit and Ignatian Spirituality Australia (JISA).  Recent General Congregations of the Society of Jesus have called for a renewal of our governance structures and our way of proceeding in our Ministries, ‘to put new wine into new wineskins’. What was good and worked well in the past may not be useful in our present situation. We are now experiencing new ways of delivering retreats and spiritual direction.

There is no doubt that we have witnessed great changes in the world around us. In response to these changes the Ministry of the Spiritual Exercises and Ignatian Formation in the Australian Jesuit Province has been restructured to meet the need of the times. Covid-19 has also brought what has been described as “the new normal”. Fr General Arturo Sosa SJ put this question to the Jesuits of Asia/Pacific; In the aftermath of this pandemic, what do we need to do, that can profoundly transform the relationships among peoples, with nature, and with God?

Our community is a newly formed nationally administered body incorporating the Australian Centres of Ignatian Spirituality: Campion in Melbourne Victoria, Sevenhill and Loyola-Adelaide in South Australia, Faber in Brisbane Queensland and Canisius in Sydney New South Wales. Our community also includes the mobile and online First Spiritual Exercises ministry and the Being with God in Nature ministry which is inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si.

We are a national community of women and men formed in Ignatian Spirituality. Our coming together enables more agility and mobility, to go where the needs are greater, to continue interacting with you wherever you are, whether it’s in your parish, school, diocese, organisation, online or out in nature.

We give the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius of Loyola and accompany individuals and groups through spiritual conversation and spiritual direction. We offer retreats, ministry supervision and Ignatian formation for leadership and mission. Our facilities are available for day programs, residential retreats and hospitality.

You are receiving this newsletter because you have previously received newsletters or have participated in an offering from one of our centres or ministries in the past.

We are a national community of women and men formed in Ignatian Spirituality working in a variety of geographic locations and online.

This coming together enables more agility and mobility, to go where the needs are great, to continue interacting with you wherever you are, whether it’s in your parish, school, diocese, organisation, online or out in nature. And we still operate from our different physical venues in SA, VIC, NSW and QLD.

We warmly welcome you and hope you enjoy our website and newsletter.
