Easter Reflection from Patrick O’Sullivan SJ

One of the pivotal Mysteries of our Faith is the resurrection of Jesus.   St. Paul tells us:  ‘If Christ be not risen, your faith is in vain.’   But Jesus’ Resurrection is a Mystery that celebrates not just His rising from the dead;  it is a cosmic event that reverberates through all of creation. St. Paul makes this very clear in many writings, especially in his letter to the Colossians: ‘He is the image of the unseen God,  And the first born of all creation,  For in him were created,  All things in heaven and on earth,  Everything visible and everything invisible  . . . all things were created through Him and for Him,  Before anything was created, He existed, and He holds all things in unity  . . .  As He is the beginning, He was the first to be born from the dead,  So that He should be the first in every way’

Ignatius’ insistence on the grace of finding God in all things, was the way he expressed and experienced this Mystery in his daily living.  Falling back on a more secular vocabulary occasionally can actually ‘refresh’ our Faith.

There are untold millions of galaxies out there, and so Jesus’ Resurrection means that in His rising, He actually renewed and refashioned every atom of Creation” Richard Rohr
